The Prayer Life
© 2006 by Dick Eastman

"We need not only to search for God, but do it with all our hearts".
Jeremiah 29: 11-14; II Chronicles 31:21

"When, instead of blessings, we find tribulation, we should continue praying as we had
been doing before the tribulation came." (e.g. Daniel)

"Wisdom is the right use of knowledge."
"Knowing God results in understanding." (Prov. 9:10)

"He counts the number of the stars; He calls them by name." (Psalm 147: 4,5)
"If God knows each single star so well, and has taken the time to even give each a name,
how much more will He know and care for each one of us--human beings!"

"We need to cultivate a right concept of prayer:
Call to God
Command in God's Name.
Confide with God.
Commune with God."

When we pray, we must believe that God is listening to us, that He loves us,
that He will answer us, and that He is The Almighty. (Romans 4:17; Psalm 91:15;
Hebrews 11:1; "I will answer them personally." --God (Zechariah 13:9)

"Something happens when we pray that doesn't happen when we don't."

"The first recorded time the disciples used the name of Jesus in prayer was at the
healing of the paralytic man":
"Peter said, 'Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the
name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.' " (Acts 3: 6)
"They didn't pray: 'If it is God's will.' They knew it was God's will."

"We all are familiar with 'WWJD? (What would Jesus do?), ' but we should also
ask ourselves: 'HWJP? (How would Jesus pray?).' "

"When we pray, we must rest completely in the integrity of God's Word."
(Hebrews 4:16; Psalm 20)

Reflection Exercise

"Think about the specific evidence you have seen in your life, and the life of others,
that makes you clearly see that prayer works." Write it down.
"Meditate on Psalms 18, 20, and 91. Make them a prayer."

"We need to make a real prayer commitment if we want to live a real prayer
life. For a powerful prayer life, we must develop and maintain a regular prayer
habit and be faithful to God with our lives. Mother Theresa said, 'God didn't
call us to be successful, but to be faithful.' " (II Chronicles 16:9; Psalm 5:3)

"For a powerful prayer life we must have purpose and direction to our prayers,
focus, compassion, involvement [and holiness] ."
"For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all,
then all died; and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for
themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.
(Matthew 7: 7-23; Mark 11: 22-26; Psalm 126:5-6; Isa. 58:6-7,9; II Cor. 5:14)

"The twofold of compassionate ministry: Spiritual Warfare, and Physical Welfare
--helping people meet their physical needs. (Isa. 58: 2-11)"

Reflection Exercise

"What is it that is hindering your prayers? What are you going to do, or to stop
doing to eliminate that hindrance?"

Praying with Faith
© 2006 by Joseph Winger

"Faith is talking like, believing like, living like everything God has said and says is
true." (Hebrews 11)

"Faith is not faith in faith. Faith is faith in the faithfulness of God." (Acts 27:25)

"Ed Cole used to say:

'Faith is believing that what I cannot see will come to pass.
Fear is believing that what I cannot see will come to pass.' "

"By faith we live a righteous life style." (Romans 1:17)
"By faith we enter God's rest." (Hebrews 4:2)
"Saving faith works through agape, holy love." (Galatians 5:11)

How to Build a Strong Faith

1. Spend time in God's Word. (Romans 10:17)
2. Record a personal faith history. (I Samuel 17: 36, 37)
3. Be faithful to your own word, be faithful to God. (Psalm 18: 25-27)
4. Fight the good fight of faith. (I Timothy 6:12)
5. Pray in the Spirit. (Jude 20)
6. Establish daily faith practices.
"I believed and therefore I spoke, we also believe and therefore speak... We do not lose heart...We persuade men."(II Corinthians 4:13-5: 11)
"Therefore, I will praise Him in His tabernacle...." (Psalm 27: 1-6)
Cultivate thankfulness.
